Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits he cannot hide from his troubling record and believes it is expected that club former stars are criticizing him.
On Tuesday, the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney told his podcast that "the spirit has disappeared" from his old club.
The Portuguese manager has achieved just eighteen victories from his forty-nine matches in charge, including nine out of 33 in the English top flight, where he has still to achieve two consecutive wins.
Despite the fact that high-level Old Trafford sources are certain that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still behind Amorim, failure to defeat recently promoted Sunderland on the weekend will ignite fresh rumors about his future heading into another two-week pause in domestic football.
"It is understandable," commented the Portugal-born coach, when questioned about Rooney's comments. "You can't run away from the performance."
"Additionally you have the history from the previous campaign, [although] that period for me is in the past."

That is not how the first six fixtures have unfolded as Manchester United have suffered three losses so far and find themselves fourteenth in the standings.
