Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

He rescued four early-game chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
